  • 1993

    Humble Beginnings

In the summer of 1993 the founders of the company dug their first pond by hand, a 500 gallon pond in their own backyard.

  • 1995

    Green Vista Services

Adopting the name "Green Vista Services", we began doing part-time residential landscaping and water feature work in the Dayton, Ohio area.

  • 1996

    Room to grow

We rented a 2 acre plot for the business in Enon, Ohio and began to do commercial pond work. We completed large feature ponds for several restaurants and retail businesses.

  • 1997

    Green Vista Water Gardens

1997 was our first full year of business and it was the year we changed our name to Green Vista Water Gardens. We continued creating commercial water features, completing displays for several malls in the Dayton area. We also began commercial scale aquatic plant production. In 1997 our first 500 bog plants and 100 water lilies were cultivated. After supplying many garden centers in the area with aquatic plants, we decided it was time to open our own retail shop in a tiny barn.

  • 1998

    Expansion!

We hired our first 3 employees and moved out of our little barn into a 600ft² building. Our offerings expanded to include fish and other supplies that our customers had been asking for. We set to work building display ponds on our property, building 10 different features to showcase all of our products and ideas. It was also at this time that our first eBay account was created and with it, our first online sale was made. We knew the internet would be a very important part of our business one day.

  • 1999-2000

    Prolific Plant Production

The aquatic plant operation had now expanded into one of the largest in the midwest. We added wetland plant sourcing and installation to our list of services and offered a selection of over 150 bog plants and 50+ varieties of water lilies. By this time we were shipping thousands of aquatic plants to garden centers throughout the midwest and northeast United States. We also expanded our pond and water feature business, operating 3 full installation and maintenance crews throughout the Ohio Miami Valley Area.

  • 2001

Bringing Pond Joy to the Community

We began to hold annual water gardening events for our community and colleagues. We held our first "Ohio Water Lily Festival," featuring local and national speakers, pond displays and hundreds of blooming water lilies. Shortly thereafter we began our “Monet by Moonlight” event - a free, end-of-summer, customer appreciation event featuring night-blooming lilies, lighted display ponds, music, poetry and wine.

  • 2002-2004

    We need more space

Quickly running out of room, we moved a short trip down the road into an 1,800ft² building on 4 acres. We built massively larger display ponds and tripled the size of our retail store. At that point it only made sense to incorporate, and we became Green Vista, Inc.

  • 2006-2008

    The internet is taking over!

Our first dedicated e-commerce website was created, Pondandgardenwholesalers.com. We wanted to sell our plants and supplies to a national audience. Quickly, our internet sales took off and we expanded our plant, fish, and supply selection. At this time we became the largest Pond Supply store in the Midwest.

  • 2009-2011

    Times they are a-changing

With internet sales becomes such a large part of our daily operation, we made the tough choice to sell our Pond installation and maintenance division. This allowed us to put our full energy into expanding our online business and to do that we purchased a 3,900ft² warehouse just to house our e-commerce division. With the added space, we began selling on Amazon which gave us a massive internet retail footprint.

  • 2012-2016

    Metamorphosis

Our online sales continued to grow rapidly, quickly outpacing our retail store and becoming our primary source of business. We decided to to rebrand all of our online sales channels (eBay, Amazon, and our own website) to PondandGardenDepot.com.

  • 2017-2019

    Bittersweet Success

Due to the strong performance of PondandGardenDepot.com, we purchased a 7,200ft² warehouse to house all of the inventory we needed to hold to keep up with sales. By this time, online sales are dominating our time and attention and we make the hard decision to close our Retail Store after 23 years serving the Local customers. We transition to a 100% online business.

  • 2019-2021

    We really miss people

We survive COVID, the toughest labor market in over 20 years, and still continue to grow online every year. Partly to re-connect with local contractors and partly because we just miss helping our local community, we decide to offer walk-in hours at our main warehouse.

  • 2022

    A quarter century!

Bringing us to today, we are now celebrating 25 years of business and we are so excited to be here to help you build the water feature of your dreams!
